The inspiration for the poem "Wee Little Houses by the Side of the Road" by William Warren Brissbe.Circus people occupied the houses in the 1920's, and in the basement of the second house was a speakeasy and a brothel.
Small immigrant laborers (boysenberry pickers) lived in the houses until recently when the subprime mortgage crisis forced them out into the nearby hills.
