O-BA-MA

Well, we have a new president. Everyone's talking about what an historic moment it is, and that's surely true, but the amazing thing to me is Obama's personal triumph.

It couldn't have been easy for him growing up. He certainly must have run up against recurring racial prejudice. His family situation was far from ideal. But he fought through these obstacles, and, despite modest circumstances, got a better-than-average education.

A year ago no one would have bet on him to be the next president. I never thought he could beat the Clinton machine. To me that was a remarkable achievement in itself.

Obviously, it takes an incredible amount of energy, stamina and perseverance to become the president of the United States. Obama has shown these qualities, and they are coincidently the qualities of a good leader.

So, whether you agree with his political philosophy or not, you can only admire what he has accomplished and hope that this translates into good things for the country.
