"A bad thing said far outweighs good deeds done."
~Robert Ogden Stich
Imus said a reprehensible thing about some innocent women. He lost his job. He apologized to the Rutgers women's basketball team on the air before he lost his job and in person after he lost his job.
Hmmm. Is firing enough? Some people seem to want to have his tongue carved out for the offensive remarks.
The Suits
The suits at NBC and CBS knew what they were getting when they originally put Imus on the air 14 years ago. All the guests that appeared on the Imus show in the those 14 years - media types, authors, politicians - knew the tenor of the show and realized the types of things Imus said. It's laughable when they all feign outrage now . What the suits really said was 'we hired the guy; he made a mistake; we fired him because of pressure from advertisers; we don't want you to know that we sanctioned this type of show for 14 years; now we did the noble thing and aren't you proud of us.'
The Politicians
Politicians almost always benefited by an appearance on the Imus show. Few stood up for him while he was going down.
The only man in America who could have saved Imus' job, former US Representative Harold Ford Jr., who Imus supported throughout the years and had high praise for, had no comment on the situation. Hey, what do you expect from a politician.

Marriage Counseling
Sent along by my friend, the Fezman:
A husband and wife came for counseling after 15 years of marriage.
When asked what the problem was, the wife went into a long tirade, listing every problem they had ever had. She went on and on and on about neglect, lack of intimacy, emptiness, loneliness, feeling unloved and unlovable, an entire laundry list of unmet needs she had endured over the course of their marriage.
Finally, the marriage counselor got up, walked around the desk, asked the wife to stand, and then embraced and kissed her passionately. The woman quietly sat down as though in a daze. The counselor turned to the husband and said, "This is what your wife needs at least three times a week. Can you do this?"
The husband thought for a moment and replied, "Well, I can drop her off here on Mondays and Wednesdays, but on Fridays, I golf. "
